1. When will I hear from my child's coach?
Answer: You can expect to be contacted approximately the second week in July by your child's coach. Opening Day is scheduled for August 6, 2011.
2. Can I request a coach? Can my child play on the same team as his friend?
Answer: Due to the large number of players participating in the various programs, specific requests to play with a friend or for a coach cannot be honored. If you really want your child to play on the same team with their friend, you and your child's friend's parent should sign up to head coach and assistant coach the same team. Parents will need to volunteer to coach prior to June 1. This will guarantee placement of the two players on the same team. However, each team is limited to one head coach and one assistant coach.
3. How are teams formed?
Answer: Teams are formed based on the geographical location of the players. Every effort is made to keep players and coaches in the same area. However, depending on the amount of coaching volunteers we receive and their location some players could find that they do not live in the same area as their coach. The only guarantee is if the parent signs up to coach.
4. What if I want to coach my child's team?
Answer: Our organization depends on volunteer parent coaches to support league play. New coaches are not required to have sport –specific knowledge and can attend a variety of coach education sessions prior to the beginning of the season. Please, visit the coach's page for more information.
5. What is the Volunteer Program
Answer: The East Diablo Youth Soccer League serves our players through the involvement and dedication of volunteers. We are continuously in need of volunteer assistance throughout most of the year. In order to fulfill this need, we require that each family of age groups U6 and older sign up for a specific volunteer activity and pay a $30.00 volunteer fee, per child, to the club at registration. This fee will be rebated after the volunteer commitment has been completed.
6. What is the youngest/oldest a child can play?
Answer: A player must be at least 4 and cannot turn 19 before July 31st.
7. What age group would my child play in?
Answer: Refer to the Age Group Chart.
8. Can my child play up?
Answer: EDYSL encourages all players to stay within their age group. Special considerations must have approval and can only be one year up.
9. When are games played and how long is the season?
Answer: Most games are played primarily on Saturdays, especially with our younger age groups. We do have a few mid week games and some Sunday games. Games are played primarily in Brentwood and Oakley. The season officially starts with Opening Day on July 31, 2010 and ends mid November.
10. Why does my U16-U19 player have to travel?
Answer: Depending upon the number of teams that we have registered in this age bracket, teams may travel within a 35 mile radius playing in cities such as Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Concord and surrounding areas. Refunds cannot be given if teams have to travel out of the area.
11. Where will my practices be held?
Answer: Practices can be held in Brentwood, Oakley, or Discovery Bay based on the coaches preference.
12. What equipment do I need?
Answer: Players must have shin guards and soccer cleats to wear to all games and practices. Uniforms for the Rec program are included. Players are encouraged to bring a ball to practice.
13. Where do my registration fees go?
Answer: EDYSL is a non-profit organization and all registration fees collected go directly back to the player and the operations of the club. Fees cover many expenses such as uniforms, insurance, field rental, equipment, refs, training, and more.
14. Why do I have to provide a mother's birth date?
Answer: This date is used for identification purposes and will be the last 4 digits of your child's ID.
15. Where can I find more information?
Answer: Please be sure to sign up for our newsletter for all the latest events and news! Check the website as that is the best source for information. Throughout the season we will send emails to all our members. Make sure your email is up to date. |
