11 Items for Referees handling recreational games to keep in mind
    1. You are the referee and decisions you make on the field are final.
    2. Arrive early to the field, prepared and knowing your assignments
    3. Have a pre-game routine and follow it. Don t have a routine? Learn one!  Make sure the fieldare safe (Check goals to verify they cannot fall over) and player
    4. Referee Make sure you have your jersey s tucked in, badge on, flags, whistle, red/yellow cards/referee wallet, watch and a coin for the toss with  you.
    5. Center Referee and AR s need to work together, you are a team.
    6. Coaches and teams are to be on one side of the field, separate from fans/spectators.
    7. Only coaches with team must have coaches pass to be with team.  No coaches pass, must go to other side of the field.  (Start of season exception, some assistant coaches may be missing coaches passes, please allow one Assistant Coach to stay with the team for now, I will follow up with the league)
    8. Any issues on the field, with fans or coaches, the referee should address with the coach associated with the issue.  Continued issues or no resolution, end the game, make note on the game and keep the respective coaches pass and game card.  (This is a very serious situation, please be sure you warn the coach of the consequences if the behavior is not controlled.  MAKE IT CLEAR.  If you pull the coaches pass, be sure to note on the game card that will be turned in to Dennis Cardoza, 325-7213). The game ends, no winner or loser.
    9. Referees enter and leave the field as a team.  At the end of the game be sure to watch the teams shake hands and give the teams the opportunity to shake your hands.  Be sure to return coaches passes at this time, assuming item 7 above did not arise.   Game card should be filled in while teams are shaking hands and handed to the winning team, or home team in the case of a tie.
    10. Please instruct the winning team to keep the game card. In the event of a tie, the home team coach will keep the game card. Coaches will electronically input their scores into the mysoccerleague.com data base following their game. Game cards will only be submitted to the league in the event there is a discrepancy in game result reports or in the event of a serious infraction (see #8 above)
    11. Start off slow, do AR duty to start, and move up slowly. Don t referee above your skill level and this will serve you well. Remember Grade 9 referee s MUST not officiate above U14 recreational games. We all make mistakes, don t be afraid to ask questions of others.

Thinking about handling a U9/U10 game?  Please take print the rules for the game.   U9/U10 games have some small differences than what you   learned in your referee training.
